I have done this hike every year for the past four years!
It’s THAT good!
I even did it with my parents who are in their 60’s since it’s the perfect trail for non-hikers.
Very gradual incline through the whole trail, lots of switchbacks.
When you reach the peak, there is plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the stunning view of Lake George.
Beautiful view of the vast fall colors during peak season.
Mid October is the best time to go.
There are two parking lots for this trail.
Would recommend driving to the lot closest to the trailhead first, to see if there is any availability.
If not, you will have to turn around and drive back to the first lot you passed on the way in and walk a mile to the trailhead.
Be sure to get there early, if you’re hiking on the weekend to get a good parking spot.
Easily one of my favorite autumn traditions.
2. Huckleberry Point

Huckleberry Point is the perfect hike for families, kids, and non-hikers.
Very easy trail with a wide, open viewing space when you get to the destination.
Feels like a brisk walk through the woods most of the way!
Located near Elka Park, NY which is about 1 hour south of Albany, and 2.5 hours north of NYC.
Time and length: This out and back trail is a total of 4.5 miles long and takes about 2.5 hours to complete.
Great view of the Hudson Valley, especially in peak Fall.
Definitely Insta worthy!
3. Moxham Mountain

I wish I had known about this hike before this year.
Another really easy hike with great views of the fall colors and a unique marshy terrain below.
There is plenty of parking along the road if the lot fills up, so you don’t have to wake up super early for this one.
Located only 40 minutes northwest of Lake George, it’s the perfect day trip hike for out of town visitors.
This trail is a 5.5 mile out and back trail, which takes on average about 3 hours to complete.

4. Big Slide

I can’t recommend Big Slide enough for my more experienced hikers.
This has been my favorite High Peak hike in the Adirondacks thus far.
Great views of the mountain range and the valley below.
In the fall it looks like a sea of orange.
This is a 7.6 mile long trail with 3,126 ft of elevation gain.
Takes apx. 5 hours to complete.
Park in the Garden Parking Lot for the best trail access.
If the lot is full, park at Rooster Comb and take a shuttle to the trail.
Always check alltrails ahead of time for all hikes to verify location, directions, and trail conditions.
